What are your thoughts on teaching?
Sometimes fruitful discourse regarding controversial issues seems rare, drowned out by sensational headlines, vacuous tweets, and debates in which ad hominem attacks merit popular approval. My students’ exposure to bioethics, my area of specialization, has largely been in these contexts. I am motivated by my students’ identification with the passion and concerns expressed in these settings, and their desire to participate in more fruitful dialogue. I aim to help my students realize this desire by equipping them to engage in informed, charitable, and critical discourse.
