What are your thoughts on teaching?
I believe that all students are capable of learning, given the right circumstances. Students learn best in a caring, supportive environment, where the instructor and the other students are all working together toward a common goal. I always try to see the student as an individual and try to meet their individual needs. Education is not “one “size fits all” and trying to force a student to learn in a way that does not work for them can cause unnecessary challenges in the learning process. I also believe that learning should be an active process. For many of my classes, I use the flipped classroom method so that time in class can be spent on making connections and applying new concepts rather than passively listening to a lecture. Students bring their own knowledge through past experiences, and we build on that knowledge to make the learning deeper and more meaningful.

Medical surgical nursing, and specifically the care of patients with neurological disorders
What hobbies/interests do you enjoy outside of academia?
I am an avid reader and set a goal to read at least 50 books per year. I also enjoy gardening. I am kept very busy with my two children and two dogs!
