What are your thoughts on teaching?
Teaching should be critical, inclusive, and transformative. The purpose of education is to bring about justice and support individual student growth. This type of teaching and learning is best done in community with others.
Tell us about your field of expertise.
Though I resist the word expertise, most broadly my research considers the possibilities and tensions when teachers learn about race in school settings. My interests include antiracist and abolitionist education, critical whiteness studies, teacher education and professional development, curriculum studies, social studies methods, and restorative justice.
What hobbies/interests do you enjoy outside of academia?
Listening to audiobooks, riding my bike slowly, making art with my kids, and doing yoga quite poorly
