What are your thoughts on teaching?
My teaching is motivated by a deep desire to make sociology and quantitative methods more accessible to students. For example, connecting structural inequities to seemingly disparate topics is essential to prepare students for their post-graduate lives. Quantitative data literacy is increasingly necessary across disciplines and professions. I transitioned to quantitative research several years after receiving a liberal arts degree—one that did not include any math or statistics. I vividly remember the intimidation I felt in my early days as a data analyst. As a professor, I try to demonstrate that quantitative methods are accessible to all who seek to learn them.
