Below is a comparison of current Early Action, Early Decision 1 and 2, and Regular Decision applications against last year’s numbers (as of last week). It is important to point out that the Early Decision deadline changed this year — from November 15 to November 1.

NECHE Responds Positively to Report, Seeks Update on College Leadership
In August 2019, the College submitted to NECHE its required report regarding progress on implementing the strategic plan (PC200). NECHE responded affirmatively to that report last month. In its response, the Commission asked for a new report in one year that describes, “(the) institution’s success in making the transition to a new president and on the collaborative efforts among members of the Corporation and Board of Trustees to clarify the roles and responsibilities of those two groups in institutional governance.” Thus, these important efforts remain a priority.
Provost’s Task Force on Inclusive Resources and Access Formed
A taskforce of faculty and staff are undertaking an effort to ensure that all students have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed at the College. The recently formed working group includes representatives from the Phillips Memorial Library, the offices/divisions of academic affairs, academic services, finance and business, institutional advancement, institutional diversity, financial aid, student affairs, and the Center for Engaged Learning.
The group’s immediate tasks include creating an inventory of current efforts and policies; proposing strategies for effective campus-wide communication; collaborate and communicating with existing and emerging groups on campus; considering current and potential infrastructure to support inclusive resources and access; and identifying short, medium, and long-term goals and action steps.

Grant Activity Focused on Conservation
Through a relationship cultivated by the Office of Institutional Advancement, the Southeastern New England Educational and Charitable Foundation (SNEC) has collaborated with PC to encourage experiential learning in environmental conservation by students. College faculty and students proposed experiential learning activities related to environmental conservation that advance the foundation’s mission and enhance the knowledge and experience of the student.The SNEC agreed to replenish a grant made last year for internships in environmental biology and to expand the eligibility of students who may receive the internship(s) to any biology major who selects an internship with clear and significant focus on environmental biology. Four sponsored research studies also were funded to faculty in the Department of Biology in the latest round. They are:
- Studies of the Invasive Clinging (and Stinging) Jellyfish of Southern New England, Dr. Joseph A DeGiorgis, professor of biology;
- Placing Ecological Studies in a Larger Conservation Context: Identifying the Drivers and Extent of Southeastern New England Saltmarsh Loss, Dr. Patrick J. Ewanchuk, associate professor of biology; and
- The Population Genetic Context for Rapid Adaptation to Industrial Pollution in Narragansett Bay, Dr. Jeffrey Markert, biology lab coordinator.
- Opossum shrimp genomics, adaptive capacity and climate change in RI: Year 2, Dr. Elisabeth Arevalo, associate professor of biology
