What are your thoughts on teaching?
My overarching goal when teaching or mentoring students is always the same: to create a welcoming yet challenging environment in which each individual is able to progress as a scientific thinker and communicator. In my classes, I aim to integrate primary literature for a problem-based learning approach and to foster an inclusive classroom through thoughtful course design and inquiry-based learning.
Tell us about your field of expertise.
My field of expertise is behavioral and systems neuroscience, and within that broad field my research focuses on the neural circuits that underlie motivated behavior. I am particularly interested in how circuits in the hypothalamus sense the body’s need state drive behavior when multiple needs are in conflict.
What hobbies/interests do you enjoy outside of academia?
In my free time, I enjoy running, hiking, and exploring new and familiar places throughout New England.
