Institutional Review Board

Welcome to the Providence College Institutional Review Board (IRB). We have developed this online resource to help you understand the application and review process regarding research projects involving human participants.

Please use our online system (click on the link on the right hand side of the page) to submit your application, see reviewer comments, respond to reviewer comments, submit modifications, check application status, or any other activities related to your application. Your should use your PC credentials to login.

If your application is classified as a full review document, it must be evaluated at a monthly IRB meeting. After we meet to discuss your full application, we document our deliberations and prepare our response. We usually need one week (after our meeting) to do so.

If your application is not classified as a full review document, it is evaluated on a rolling basis. In other words, there is no deadline for such applications. After we receive your exempt or expedited application, we usually need two weeks to evaluate your material and to prepare our response.

In addition, please keep in mind that each investigator must complete the required CITI program course before submitting an application.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us (IRB@providence.edu). Please keep in mind that we never treat general correspondence or verbal conversations as formal submissions. Only formal submissions, using the online system, are considered IRB submissions.

Submission Deadlines

The IRB evaluates each full review application usually on the third Wednesday of every month. IRB members need at least one week to review each complete application before the IRB evaluates it.

Thus, we must receive your full review application no later than the second Wednesday of any month in order to evaluate it on the third Wednesday, i.e. one week later.
